"Corrections
2" - art by the scalpel
by Diana Popova
The
two videotapes are following in close-up the circumcision
of the artist. It all starts with the preparation: the introduction
of the local anesthetic; the disinfection of the whole area;
the positioning of the sterile cloth with a square opening
through which the organ for the upcoming procedure is taken
out; the clipping and stretching of the skin that has to
be removed. What follows is the real thing: deft cuts with
the scalpel and recurring swab ups of the springing blood.
After the removal of the useless parts there comes the sewing
back of the rest of it with unbelievably fascinating for
me surgical knots. At the end the organ is bandaged and
that puts the end to both the operation and the artwork.
